Touhai Densetsu Akagi

Finally finished the subs for this.  The rar file includes subtitle (.ass) files for episodes 1 to 26, and also attached are the fonts used.  I decided to go with offering just the subtitle files for now, since it is probably a bit more familiar to most.

Since the Nyaa torrent of Yousei-raws has been deleted (because of upscale), here is a link to the Yousei-raws website to download:

As I progressed through editing the episodes, I started retiming all of the lines and snapping them to keyframes.  I also figured out how to make moving signs (first screenshot here), but I didnt bother to go back and change the one or two others earlier on in the series, since it wasnt really important.

Here are some additional screenshots:

If there are any problems, let me know.  This is the first series ive worked on from start to finish, and I did it because I wanted to have Akagi with good subs and a quality encode (even if it is for upscaled files).  Since I spent a decent amount of time on this, I decided to share it for others to enjoy.  Anyone is welcome to modify these files, remux and upload, etc (just dont sell them, lol).  I plan to offer this at BakaBT, so if anyone is willing to mux the subs with Yousei-raws and upload for me, please let me know.  I have a max upload speed of ~80kbps on my DSL line, so initial seeding of such a torrent would be way too time consuming.

Touhai Densetsu Akagi

Im actually surprised that this series has yet to find someone from the anime community to provide Akagi with a proper encode.  Taedium released his encode a couple years back, but the quality is still relatively poor since he didnt properly inverse telecine the source, and the result is some pretty choppy playback. Yosei-raws do not have this problem, and the video quality is much improved over the TV rip that Triad released way back.  The best release typesetting-wise is still Triad, though the default font they used is a little boring.so I changed it (as well as the OP/ED).

This is a subtitle patch for the Yousei-raws encode of Akagi found here: #241958

I used Taedium's subtitle files and retimed them to fit the Yousei-raws encode. These subs needed a bit of work since the fonts used were too small, lines werent split, and none of the signs were properly typeset. Despite the problems with Taedium's release, the fades in signs were accurate so all I did was have to adjust the timing. Some lines may not be snapped to keyframes, but overall the timing is pretty accurate. The subs also have a fade in/fade out on each line which I did not remove, but it isnt too noticeable and actually makes the subs flow pretty well, so I didnt bother removing it.

I referenced the original Triad release in which Taedium's release was based on for fonts and styling, though I did not add animation to the few signs that required it. Anyone is free to use my files as a template if they wish to do so. I tried to imitate Triad's styling wherever I could, though I changed the default text to something a bit more fitting (imo). Since Taedium didnt include the Japanese in the OP/ED, I took it from Triad's release. Their OP styling font was hideous so I didnt bother to replicate their styling (sorry to anyone who liked it).

This release aims to provide an alternative to the Triad release, with higher quality video and not having to sacrifice a lot of the well done typesetting featured in Triad's version. The Yousei-raws encode of this series is the best available, and since im on a DSL line I decided to make it patchable instead of offering a remuxed version. I plan on releasing the rest of the episodes soon, probably in the next week or two.

If anyone has problems installing the patches, just let me know. Ive tested them and they should work, though I can always release this as an mka with the subtitles and fonts so that you can remux it yourself if you would prefer that method (though this will result in differing CRC32 values). Maybe this is a bad idea, but I welcome any comments you may have.

Introduction

I created this blog to archive any BD or DVD projects I decide to work on.  The name is taken from the Zeta Gundam, as I am a big fan of UC era Gundam, but I do not plan to work on any subs for this series.  I was considering working on editing and retiming the subs for Gundam Unicorn, but the lack of signs and generally acceptable retail subs of the BDs made me decide against it.  I did complete episode 1 however, if anyone is interested just let me know and ill post the subtitle file with the attached fonts (use mkvmerge to merge with BD raws/other fansubbed BD versions).

In the meantime I will post about any project I feel like working on.  Mostly this blog will provide download links to subtitle files and patches, since I'm on a DSL connection and will have problems uploading large files.  Any project and progress will be dependent on my interest and time available.
